Padmabhushan Dr. Vasantdada Patil College of Architecture is managed by the Vivekanand Institute of Technology, a society registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860 and Bombay Public Trust Act 1950, with the aim of promoting quality technical education in Pune. The society consists of a dedicated group of people having wide experience in the fields of social service, public administration and professional education.

The college was founded in the year 1995 and is affiliated to the University of Pune and is recognized by the Council of Architecture, New Delhi, the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and the Director, Technical education, Government of Maharashtra. Around 165 students have graduated from the Institute since it's inception in 1995, and are well placed in professional offices as well as post graduate courses in reputed Institutes in India and abroad.

The Vivekanand Institute of Technology was established with the aim of creating an educational institute in Pune that will impart technical education that is at par with the best in India and abroad. Apart from academic excellence, which is, of course, one of the prime objectives, emphasis is also laid on overall individual growth and development, and on making a meaningful contribution to the social fabric that the individual is a part of.
